One of the most versatile classes in BF4 is the Recon class. You can choose from any type of weapon other than assault rifles or LMG’s, and your gadgets range from spotting tools to laser designators, and even C4 for taking on vehicles.

If your weapon of choice is a sniper rifle, there are a lot of gameplay features and attachments to learn about in order to help you hit your targets.

In this post I’ll go over bullet drop, zeroing, scopes, and more. [Read more…]

Battlefield 3 sniping tips

Sniping in BF3 is a controversial subject. We’ve all found ourselves on a team full of snipers ignoring the objectives. However, a good sniper can have their place on the team. For example, you can keep enemies away MCOM’s and flags, or prevent the MCOM your teammate armed from getting disabled if you’re a good shot.

Here, I’m going to focus on eliminating enemies with a sniper rifle and staying alive.

Basic tips:

  • Get used to the amount of bullet drop each rifle has. To watch your bullet travel, continue holding the fire button after taking your shot. Practice aiming just above your target at medium range, and higher at longer ranges.
  • Aim for the head. Headshots are a 1-shot kill with the bolt-action rifles and at most a 2-shot kill with the semi-auto sniper rifles.

In the first post of this series, I recommended choosing one or two classes to focus on after BF3 releases.

In this post I’ll go over the recon class and which players will benefit from focusing on this role first.

Snipers

When people think of the recon class, they think “sniper.”

Battlefield games have always had a class with its own unique long-range rifles. BF3 will have a total of 6 sniper rifles, all unique to the recon class. Some possible new additions in BF3 such as scope glint and scope sway may make it more of a challenge to be a sniper when you get started. On the other hand, you’ll be able to earn weapon specializations such as the bipod, scopes, and flash suppressor. Also, claymores can bring down enemies that try to sneak up on you. These will no doubt give snipers and their rifles a huge range and detection advantage over the other classes.

Don’t look past the reason it’s called the “recon” class and not the “sniper” class.

The recon class has more goodies of its own other than sniper rifles.
