Enable color blind mode for better contrast in Battlefield 3

For those with certain types of color blindness, the teammate and enemy colors in the HUD and minimap can be very difficult to tell apart. A color blind mode was added to BF3 on the PC which can help eliminate this problem. Many find this option to be an improvement in contrast, even those without color blindness.

Enabling colorblind support sets a more vivid blue for teammates, red for enemies, and replaces the green for squad members with yellow/green. A black border is added around spotting symbols and player names to make them stand out further.

Give colorblind support a try, even if you aren’t color blind. You may find that the added contrast makes it quicker to distinguish friends and enemies from the rest of the HUD.

Update 6/1/12: Color blind mode will be added to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions in the June 4th patch.

To enable on the PC, press the Esc key to bring up the menu, then click the Video tab. Set the “Colorblind Support” option to “Yes” as shown below.

Colorblind support is not yet available for Xbox and PS3 – DICE has said they will “try it on the PC first.” If you would like to see this mode added to consoles, contact DICE via Battlelog or Twitter to request it.

  1. Just tried this out today and it’s friggen great. The black outlines really make friends/enemies much easier to see. I’m a big fan of it!
